Current State of The Texas Electric Grid

ERCOT has warned taxpayers that current resources are insufficient to meet the continous growth and current challenges we face when frequency disturbances such as lightning, and peak periods of heat or cold hit Texas.

Regrettably, in some cases grid failures have caused catastrophic grid failures and significant loss of business and revenue. Since 2019 Texas ranks first in the number of power outages (263).

ERCOT CEO in April 2024 projected that we would need an increase in demand of 40,000 megawatt by 2030. This would nearly double the state’s peak demand.
